Jazz Vespers

Evening prayer, or Vespers, from the Latin word Vespera meaning “evening” is a worship service at the close of the day that has its roots in the Jewish daily hours of prayer. In its transfer to the early Christian church and to Vespers services today, it has kept its contemplative character, offering thanks for the mercies of the day, and prayers for divine protection and the gift of inner peace. Vespers traditionally included the singing of psalms, hymns and the canticle of Mary’s song Magnificat, as well as readings from scripture and the offering of prayers.
